I was alive on January 20th 2009
By 5.00 pm (EST) tonight, Barrack and Michelle Obama will officially change their address to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, for at least the next 4 years. The context of this significant milestone is not lost on the hundreds of years dedicated to the struggles for civil liberties around the world, from the civil wars in centuries past, to the triumphs and challenges of the civil rights movement of the 50′s and 60′s, to the fight against apartheid in South Africa.
Today, Barrack Hussein Obama, a black man of Kenyan descent, becomes the most powerful man in the world. I was alive to witness this day in history.
Let us celebrate today because it is a truly inspirational and momentous occasion. Tomorrow, we continue with life as we know it.
